In 2010-2011 kopvol conducted research for SKION (the Dutch Society for Child Oncology Professionals) to find out whether the hospital environment could support child development. Kopvol developed a unique research methodology to approach this multilayered question.
Methodology and results were published in a monograph for the society (link). In a second step kopvol transformed the results into design criteria for the new built Center of Excellence in Child Oncology; e.g. the 1-minute rule, the OKE, a new patient room typology and the 25% additional distraction and movement area.
Now the research is repeated at the TU Delft in the real estate department and mentored by Dr. Theo van de Voordt en Dr. Cor Wagenaar. The results are defined as highly relevant for the development of real estate in child oncology (link)
